BMW could expand its M Performance Automobiles lineup with a new series of vehicles. According to AutoGuide, citing an official filing by BMW with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Bavarians have registered the names ‘M335’, ‘M650’ and ‘M750’.

All three filings are quite interesting, so let’s break them down. The M335 name implies that a 3 Series M Performance Automobile is in the works, but it lacks to identify its engine. We already know that the future G20 3 Series will include an M340i model, powered by a 3.0 liter six-cylinder gasoline engine, so that leaves the M335 as either a diesel offering or another gasoline-powered model. To add even more confusion on the matter, an M340d model is already said to be in works.

Moving onto the 6 Series lineup, which now only consists of the 6 Gran Turismo model, the filling with USPTO mentions an M650 model. Currently the highest offering in the lineup is the 640i GT xDrive, so there could be room above the six-cylinder model for a Gran Turismo with over 400 horsepower and a V8 TwinTurbo.

The other interesting trademark is the M750, a name that implies a future 7 Series model with also a V8 engine and over 400 horsepower. BMW currently offers an M760i limousine with a V12 engine and 600 horsepower.

At the same time it’s worth noting that many of those trademarks don’t translate into actual production series vehicles, and they rather serve as a placeholder, so it remains to be seen which model will come to fruition.
